Interview with Mr. Richard Camp

Headteacher, Towcester C of E School, September 2015

"Our traditional A4 poster on a lamp-post wasn't working for us.

We now feature professionally within our local community publications like Focus magazine. town crier, and the local papers. We also have our photography and design online - we stand out! Our paper and online adverts and communication pieces like our new banners outside school, tell people we are a school to be known about!

We've seen a moral boost in our staff. We've created a buzz and a feel-good feeling about our school and you can see it in our pupils, parents, staff, and governors alike.

Our capacity as a school is improving. Our target has always been to have 50 pupils in a year group, 2 groups of 25. We are now in a position where we only have one year group left to reach this target, and we are not far away.

Prior to our publicity work our trend with pupil numbers was static. We are now recruiting more and more pupils; from 198 in 2011/12 to 272 in 2015/16. With this we have a larger income, we can afford for smaller class sizes - due to our additional resource."

Other achievements experienced after the photography & design work:

Headteacher of the Year finalist

"Good" Ofsted rating

"Good" rating by the Diocese of Peterborough

Increase in pupil numbers, leading to increased funding

Ability to reduce class sizes

How did CO Photo & Design do?

"Before the first photograph was taken I really valued the team spending time with my Senior Leadership colleagues and I, to listen and understand our history, and our challenges of the past. This has helped to shape some really meaningful and successful communication pieces. Early on, and in regular review meetings, we discussed our ambitions and our vision, and the way in which we wanted to achieve our goals. Our values and the way we operate at the school are fully reflective in our excellent photography and design work that I am so proud of. The work really does embody our school and no-one else's."

How would you describe CO Photo & Design's approach?

"Brilliant people skills, efficient and friendly communications, delivering results from wonderfully energising photography with professional graphic design."

What we have gained:

  • Stronger image brand
  • We have changed the perception of our school
  • We are more engaged with others about who we are and the results we have
  • We have been able to reach out to our community
  • Parents and children are actively choosing our school over others
